NNAMDI KANU: A DELAYED AND DENIED JUSTICE.
The Department of Security Service(DSS ) has failed to produce Maazi Nnamdi Kanu for trial at the federal high court, Abuja on Tuesday, 26th July, 2021.
According to the defense counsel Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, he said the DSS claimed to have logistics challenge in bringing the suspect to the hearing.
The prosecutor, Muhammed Abubakar and his legal team said Kanu was not in court because of Logistics related issue hence the presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako said the trial cannot be continued in the absence of the suspect and adjourned the case to October 21, 2021.
The defendant, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor said that it is obvious something is fishy as regards the absence of his client in court, stressing that he had been denied access to him for more than 10 days by the DSS.
According to him, "Nnamdi Kanu is being treated like a criminal and he is not a criminal, it is only the court that can declare that".
Barr. Ejiofor further stated that his action and his team, for Kanu to be transfered from DSS custody to the Kuje Correctional Centre over health related issue proved abortive.
Kanu, who is facing 11 count charges bordering on terrorism, felony, illegal possession of arms amongst others, has since been incommunicado in the custody of the DSS.
Present in court were notable Igbo Statesmen, among which was the 82 years old former Governor of Anambra State, Chief. Chukwuemeka Ezeife.
